John welcomed his nightly phone buddy to his Montana haven so Andy could finish work on his last best-selling book. The two then piled into Mayer’s bromobile for the ultimate Deadhead road trip to San Francisco for the 50th anniversary of the band. Along the way, Andy educated his dear friend on the true significance of Diana Ross, opening up yet another avenue for them to kvell over. To paraphrase (again) the classic Dead anthem “Sugar Magnolia”: “He’s got everything delightful / He’s got everything I need.”
