Slow-Cooker Hot Spiced Apple Cider

 Makes 2 quarts


2 quarts unfiltered apple cider

5 whole allspice berries

5 whole cloves

Two 3-inch cinnamon sticks

Juice of 1 orange

Juice of 1 lemon

1 orange studded with 2 tablespoons whole cloves, for garnish, optional


1. Pour the cider into a 4-quart slow cooker. Add the allspice berries, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Cover and cook on the low setting for 3 hours.

2. Just before serving, discard the spices. Stir in the orange juice and lemon juice. Float the clove-studded orange in the cider for garnish, if you like.

If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can keep this warm over low heat in a large pot on the stove. Either way, your kitchen will smell wonderful.
