The last element of this static-website puzzle is a proper menu (or menus). Because our home page is just like any other page that you can create in WordPress, it will appear in the default pages menu (pages widget), which isn't the most optimized situation.
Therefore, whenever working with static websites, make sure to use only custom menus created in Appearance | Menus. This gives you full control over what gets displayed in the header, the sidebar, and anywhere else on the site.
