Shaw wondered if he had ever felt this calm or certain before. Life suddenly seemed very simple. He guessed it had once felt this way in the arms of his mother as a baby, when life happened to you and your thoughts and needs were basic. Now he was happy because he had given up all the complications, and all that was left was taking comfort in doing what was right.
