DAY 4 : Zentangle Borders

Tangle:

Scarabou

Tangle:

Snail

One of the really great uses for Zentangle is creating borders. These might be borders on tiles (as shown here) or on pages in your journal (you can see some examples of those in Zentangle® Untangled). Borders can be plain, shaded or colored; the choice is yours, and you have no limits. If you’re someone who doodles in meetings or during class, this might be a fun way to pretty up your notebook, too!

I’ve provided examples here of some obvious tangles suited to borders, and I have demonstrated adaptations of the tangles featured in this book in later weeks. There is no rule, however, about how you can mix up a design to make it work as a border. We love “tangleations” at Zentangle and want to see you take the basics of what you learn and create something new and exciting with it. What ways can you change a tangle to create a border? What new ideas do you have?

DAY 4 PRACTICE

Use these tiles to practice your border designs, either replicating the examples or making up your own. Think about how your borders can integrate with other tangles.
