CHAPTER 7

Starfish

WEEK 37: Starfish Step-Out

Starfish is a relatively simple and very adaptable tangle that, once you get the initial shape happening, is a great white-space filler or a central-focus tangle. The best part is that, although I demonstrate a range of ways to give dimension to Starfish, you’re only limited by your own ideas.

STEP 1 Create a five-point pentagon using curved lines inward. These don’t need to be perfectly even, but try to keep them relatively even.

STEP 2 Connect two points of the pentagon using a cone shape.

STEP 3 Repeat step 2 until you have a five-point star shape.

STEP 4 Fill the arms of the starfish with lines. I used curved lines to run parallel with the original pentagon shape.

STARFISH PRACTICE

Use these tiles to practice Starfish. Getting the central shape in proportion is the key—of course, only if you want proportion!
