Untangling earphone cables is one of the most infuriating tasks of the 21st century. Freeing the miniature speakers from a jumble of cords can take up valuable listening time, especially when on the move. Here’s a great way of using your penknife to fashion a cork into a convenient spool, keeping your earphones neatly wound and tangle-free inside your pocket.
1. Stand the cork upright and cut downwards to a depth of roughly 1cm (⅜in). This will be the slot in which to fasten the two earplugs.
2. At the other end of the cork, mark a shallow ‘X’ shape across the top.
3. Push a hole through the centre of the ‘X’ using a pencil. This will create a hole into which you can fit the headphone jack.
