Blaze was driving toward the Valley Bureau jail. The detention facility was the main booking location for both males and females arrested by the LAPD in the Valley.
One of his day watch units, Ling and Shaffer, had arrested a guy for an outstanding warrant, and the arrestee was making allegations the officers had stolen money from his wallet.
He knew chances were slim his cops had committed any misconduct, and he was sure the body-worn video cameras would prove their innocence. But procedure dictated him to go through a detailed investigation.
Unfortunately, because of the arrestee’s allegation, he wouldn’t be available to assist Ferrari, Bender and Price if needed.
But sometimes, arrestees recanted their allegations once they were confronted with the body- worn video from the camera attached to the officer’s shirt. He was hoping that proved be the case in this instance.
Three tones sounded over the radio, meaning a hot shot call or other vital data was going to be broadcast.
“Attention all units, attention all units. Be advised Robbery Homicide Division is seeking the location and information regarding Eloy Beglaryan. Suspect is wanted for distribution of child pornography.
“Beglaryan is described as a male, brown hair, brown eyes, 5-11, 160, twenty-seven years of age. He’s driving a black two-door 2020 Jeep, license, BLLB4ME, and may be in the company of a sixteen-year-old female juvenile, Chloe Conrad. If Beglaryan or Conrad is located, contact Detective Ferrari at Robbery Homicide Division.”
As he drove along a major boulevard, Sherman Way, he thought about how Tony had risen to the occasion and come to work after stupidly going back to get his truck the night before.
“I sure hope nothing comes of that fiasco,” he said to himself.
Ahead on the roadway, his attention was drawn to a vehicle in a bus stop. As he started to pull to the curb, realization hit him the Jeep in the red zone matched the description just put out over the air regarding Chloe Conrad.
He keyed the mic on his shirt. “17L30, what was the plate number of the vehicle related to child porn just broadcast?”
The dispatcher responded. “17L30, personalized plate Boy Lincoln Lincoln Boy 4 Mary Edward, a 2020 Jeep.”
He could see the driver turned and talking to a female in the passenger seat. He couldn’t tell if it was Chloe or not.
Suddenly, the male grabbed the female’s head and slammed it into the window a couple of times.
“17L30, I’m Code 6 on that vehicle Sherman Way, west of Hayvenhurst.”
Before he could exit his cruiser, the car pulled away from the curb at a high rate of speed.
