About the Author
Laurence Parent was born and raised in New Mexico. After receiving an engineering degree at the University of Texas at Austin, he practiced engineering for six years before becoming a full-time freelance photographer and writer specializing in landscape, travel, and nature subjects. He has had thirty-six books published, from seven guidebooks like this one for FalconGuides to large coffee table–style photography books.
Parent’s photos appear in calendars by Sierra Club, Audubon, Brown Trout, Graphic Arts Center, and many other publishers. His magazine articles and photo credits include National Geographic Traveler, Outside, Backpacker, Sierra, Newsweek, Arizona Highways, and the New York Times. He contributes regularly to regional publications such as Texas Highways, Texas Monthly, New Mexico Magazine, and Texas Parks & Wildlife. His commercial work has included such clients as Southwest Airlines, Cox Communications, Temple-Inland, and the National Park Service. Other work includes posters, museum exhibits, postcards, and brochures.
Parent makes his home in the Austin, Texas, area with his wife, Patricia, and two children.
