Nested Squares Dishcloths

Simple single crochet and a snappy color selection make these classic cloths fresh and new. Think outside the box and change yarn whenever you like to create your own color combinations!

RND 1 (RS): Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc, turn—8 sc.

RND 2 (WS): Ch 2, (counts as middle dc in corner), sc in same st, *sc in next st, (sc, dc, sc) in next st; rep from * twice more, sc in next st, sc in same st as beg ch-2, join with sl st in top beg ch-2, turn—4 dc, 12 sc.

CONTRAST STRIPE

With RS facing, join new yarn with sc in any dc of a corner, sc in each st to next corner—25 sc. Fasten off.

EDGING AND HANGING LOOP

Note: Skip side of sc in contrast stripe when working edging.

With RS facing, join edge color with sc in a dc of the corner diagonal from where the contrast stripe fastened off, *sc in each st to corner, (3 sc) in next corner dc; rep from * twice more, sc in each st to beginning of rnd, sc in same st as first st of rnd, ch 10, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Wet block to measurements.

The beauty of this design is that you can create a million variations just by switching yarn. Try working a different color on every round for a skinny box-within-a-box effect.
