Watermelon Coasters

It’s summer in the kitchen all year long with these cheery coasters. The yarn required is enough to make many coasters. Stitch these up for quick teacher gifts, favors, or fundraisers.

Worsted weight (#4 Medium).

Shown here: Premier Dream (100% acrylic, 224 yd [205 m]/100g), in #24-217 Meadow (A), #24-216 Baby Fern (B), #24-215 Hot Lime (C), #24-201 White (D), #24-206 Grenadine (E), #24-245 Rouge Red (F), #24-235 Black (G), 1 ball each.

HOOK

Size H/8 (5 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge.

NOTIONS

Tapestry needle.

Rnds 1–3 = 1¾" (4.5 cm) in diameter in sc stitch.

RND 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each sc around, join with sl st in first sc, do not turn—14 sc.

RND 3: Ch 1, *sc in sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc, do not turn—21 sc.

RND 4: Ch 1, *sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc, do not turn—28 sc. Fasten off F.

RND 5: With E, join with sl st, ch 1, *sc in 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc, do not turn—35 sc. Fasten off E.

COLOR TIP

What makes these coasters watermelon-flavored? The red centers! Switch them to yellow or green, and you have lemons and limes.
