Tiered Tea Cozy

Deck out your teapot in layers of ruffles that are one part couture gown, one part mad tea party! It has the added bonus of keeping your tea warm.

To fit 9" × 6" (23 × 15 cm) teapot.

YARN

Worsted weight (#4 Medium).

Shown here: Quince and Co. Lark (100% American wool, 134 yd [123 m]/1.75 oz [50 g]), in Rosa Rugosta (A), Sorbet (B), Crocus (C), 1 hank each.

HOOK

Size J/10 (6 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge.

NOTIONS

2 stitch markers; porcelain teapot, 9" × 6" (23 × 15 cm), in white.

GAUGE

4 sts and 5 rows = 1" (2.5 cm) in sc stitch.

With yarn A, ch 12 loosely, join with a sl st to form a ring.

RND 1 (RS): Ch 1 (counts as sc), sc in next 11 ch—12 sc.

RND 2: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next st, sl st in next st] 6 times—6 dc groups, 6 sl sts.

RND 3: Working in back loops only of Rnd 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6 times—18 sc.

RND 4: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next sc, sl st in next sc] 9 times—9 dc groups, 9 sl sts.

RND 5: Working in back loops only of Rnd 3, [sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6 times—24 sc.

RND 6: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next sc, sl st in next sc] 12 times—12 dc groups, 12 sl sts.

ROWS 22 AND 24: Ch 2 (counts as dc), working in back loops only of Row 20 (22), dc in next 27 sc, turn—28 dc.

ROWS 23 AND 25: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, sc in next dc] 9 times, ending last rep with sl st in last dc, turn.

ROW 26: Ch 2, working in back loops only of Row 24, dc in next 27 sc, turn—28 dc. Change to yarn A.

ROWS 33 AND 35: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, sc in next dc] 9 times, ending last rep with sl st in last dc, turn.

ROW 34: Ch 2, working in back loops only of Row 32, dc in next 27 sc, turn—28 dc.

ROW 36: Ch 2, working in back loops only of Row 34, dc in st decreasing 6 sts evenly across, turn—22 dc.

ROW 37: Working in front loops only, [4 dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, sc in next dc] 7 times, ending last rep with sl st in last dc, fasten off.

Side 2

With WS facing, join yarn C to last st worked of Row 21, turn.

Rep Rows 22–37 of Side 1, do not fasten off, turn.

RNDS 40–42: Ch 1 (counts as sc), sc in next 57 sc, join with sl st in beg ch-1, fasten off.
