Pinwheel Pot Scrubbies

Doing the dishes just became a lot more fun, thanks to these colorful scrubby orbs. A clever two-tone spiral stitch pattern makes them interesting to crochet, too.

scrubbies

Make 1st Half in color combinations, reversing colors in 2nd Half: A/B, C/D, A/D, B/C, B/D.

IST HALF

RND 1 (RS): With 2 strands of yarn, ch 3, 6 dc in 3rd ch from hook.

RND 2: Drop color A and make a slipknot in color B; join with sl st in 2nd of original 3 ch, ch 1, (sc, hdc) in next ch st, 2 dc in each of next 6 dc (You are at the last st of color A. Drop B without fastening off and pick up A.)—14 sts.

RND 3: With color A, 2 dc in next ch (the ch-1 of color B), *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, rep from * to end of color B, drop A, pick up B—23 sts.

RND 4: With color B, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) 3 times, (dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) 4 times, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 2 sts—31 sts, fasten off B, pick up A.

RND 5: With A, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) 2 times, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 2 sts—17 sts, fasten off.

2ND HALF

Repeat as for 1st Half, reversing colors A and B. Do not fasten off.

FINISHING

After completing Rnd 5, place edges tog with 1st Half with WS to inside. Join edges by working slip stitch through both layers around outer edges leaving about 2" (5 cm) opening. Stuff with fiberfill or another synthetic material such as old pantyhose, and complete seam with slip stitch, do not fasten off.

Ch 6, join with sl st to base of chain. Fasten off and weave in tail.

COLOR TIP

The trick to a cohesive set of scrubbies that aren’t matchy-matchy? Choose one or two main colors, then accent with variety. Try working one half of the spiral in black on all the scrubbies, then using a different bright color for the other half of the spiral on each one.
