Chapter 24

When they ran into a neighboring town for gas, David couldn’t resist the urge to send Sheriff Jordan Hamilton some flowers.  He noticed a coffee shop with Internet, which was perfect for his needs.  The gas station had prepaid VISA's for sale, which would help keep anyone from tracing his steps.

"I will be right back.  I have something to do."

The Traveler had learned not to ask David too many questions.  The man could be close-mouthed at times. "Let’s meet at the local hardware store."

David went to the FTD website and ordered a small bouquet.  He wanted to let her know he was thinking of her.  The card read, "Miss me yet".

David knew there was no way to trace where the flowers came from and tracing the VISA was useless. He wished he could see the look on her face when she received the flowers.  Was Mr. FBI around to comfort her or was he trying to track them down.  Good luck with that.  They were states away from Louisiana.

As David walked down the aisles of the hardware store, he found one of his favorite chemicals to use on victims, muriatic acid.  He wanted to add this to his arsenal.  If only he had access to his money.  He wasn’t used to watching what he spent.  However, he was getting quite good at the five finger discount.  Unfortunately, the container of acid was too big to hide on him.  At least it wasn’t that expensive.

JORDAN WAS EXCITED when she walked up to her door and saw the flowers.  She couldn’t believe Alex took time out of his busy schedule to send them to her.  Since she wasn’t sure exactly how busy he was, she decided to send him a quick text.  “Of course I miss you.  Both baby and I are thinking about you right now.”  She included a picture of the flowers, so he could see what the florist sent.

A few seconds later, her phone rang.  “I hope I didn’t disturb you with the text, but I wanted to thank you for the flowers.”

“Honey, exactly what did the card say?”

“Stop being silly, it said that you miss me, of course.”

“Jordan, as much as I would love to take the credit for the flowers, I didn’t send them.”

Jordan went pale and had to sit down.  “Damn that man.  Why does he have to be the one who is constantly sending me flowers?  I’m really beginning to hate the idea of flowers being delivered now.”

“I’m so sorry, Jordan.  Can you tell what florist they came from?”

“They were delivered in an FTD box and left by the door.”

“You know the drill, don’t touch anything.  I’m going to call the FBI office in Springport and have them send an agent to get everything.  I’m also going to request they put a detail on you, until this guy is caught.”

“Alex, don’t be ridiculous.  I can take care of myself.  Besides, they are probably miles from here.”

“Humor me.  You aren’t able to maneuver around as easily as you were the last time David Thorguson had you in his sights.  I’d feel a lot better knowing someone is watching over you, until he is behind bars.”

“Good save.  It looks like I swallowed a bowling ball right now.  I’ll humor you this one time, but I don’t think he’s anywhere around here.”

“Neither do I, but I would rather be safe than sorry.  I don’t want anything to happen to either of you.  I love you both very much.”

“We love you too.  Be safe.”
