About the Author

Andrew Theobald was born in Saint John and raised in the Kennebecasis Valley. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the Queen’s University History Department. His Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-supported dissertation is entitled “Watching the Interval: The United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) and Middle East Peacekeeping, 1949-1956,” and is due for completion, under the supervision of Professor Allan English, later this year. Andrew also teaches a course on “War and Modern Society” at Queen’s.

Andrew earned a BA at Mount Allison University in 2000 and an MA at the University of New Brunswick in 2002. From October 2006 to June 2007, he also held a Rabin Fellowship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has published articles in Acadiensis: Journal of the History of the Atlantic Region, Ontario History, Past Imperfect and Middle Eastern Studies. Andrew’s book reviews and encyclopedia entries have appeared in many other publications, and he has presented his work at a host of conferences.

Andrew traces his interest in social military history to the experiences of his family, including his own military service, the opportunity to attend a Canadian Battle of Normandy Foundation (now called the Canadian Battlefields Foundation) Study Tour and the recent expansion of fine scholarship in the field.

This is Andrew’s first book.
