CHAPTER 69

“HI THERE, MOUSE.”

Katrina was thankful to find her husband busy putting on his boots. He didn’t try to kiss her when she walked in the door. How long would it take before he could touch her again without sending a flood of unwanted memories coursing through her?

“You’re back just in time. I really want you to tell me all about your recording session, but I’ve got to run and make these deliveries. You have the keys?”

Katrina nodded and tried to look busy digging through her purse so she didn’t have to meet his eyes.

“Hate to have to run, but I shouldn’t be more than an hour or so. See you soon, and then you can tell me all about your first step on the road to stardom.” He flashed a smile, reminding Katrina how handsome he looked when he was genuinely happy.

You’re both doing a fantastic job, Nancy had said. And didn’t Miles say Mrs. Porter had mentioned something similar?

No, Miles was no longer welcome in her thoughts. She didn’t even want to think his name. But how could she forget?

“You ok?” Greg asked, cocking his head to the side and studying her.

“Yeah, just tired. I think I’ll take a soak in the tub. I’m a little chilled.”

“Well, just don’t waste too much water, all right? I’ll be back soon. Love you.”

“I love you too,” she answered, thankful that her voice didn’t waver as he walked out the door.
