Visiting People (II)

COMMUNICATIVE OBJECTIVES

Once you’ve mastered this unit, you’ll be able to use Chinese to:

1.  Visit a friend or classmate who is ill.

2.  Explain why you didn’t come to visit your sick friend or classmate earlier.

3.  Ask someone how they’re feeling and urge them to get enough rest and take good care of themselves.

4.  Offer to help someone if they need assistance.

5.  Tell someone you’ll visit them again soon and invite them to visit you.

6.  Pay a formal call on a teacher at her or his home.

7.  Thank a teacher for her or his efforts on your behalf.

8.  Discuss your progress in learning Chinese pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, accuracy, and fluency.

9.  Ask someone to convey greetings from you to a third party.

10. Take leave of someone politely.

11. Talk about tests: different kinds, your impressions of how you did, whether the results are out yet, etc.

12. Discuss academic life: reports, term papers, theses, courses, grades, credits, and semesters.

13. Talk about mail: buying stamps and sending letters, postcards, and packages.
