Emergencies

COMMUNICATIVE OBJECTIVES

Once you’ve mastered this unit, you’ll be able to use Chinese to:

1.  Talk about being sick: going to see the doctor, requesting an English-speaking doctor, staying in the hospital, etc.

2.  Discuss specific maladies and illnesses: cold, headache, fever, nausea, pneumonia, pain, etc.

3.  Talk about various parts of the body: head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, shoulders, back, belly, waist, legs, feet, etc.

4.  Explain to a passerby or the police if your purse or wallet has been stolen.

5.  Describe the physical characteristics of objects.

6.  Go to the lost-and-found to retrieve a missing bag.

7.  Deal with a vehicular accident: Anyone hurt? Whose fault? Should you call the police or try to negotiate a settlement privately on the spot? etc.

8.  Handle other emergency situations: “Help!,” “Fire!,” etc.
