TRUE VALUES

So these have been the long centuries, and always what went before was better in eyes which no new icon could please. Our countryman has lived by the letter of the law of the wild and now sees only sadness as the green ways wither and silence deepens among the trees.

Yet this need not be so.

Surely there is room in every blackness for a field where the blackbird sings for ever and man can work in harmony with all the wild things he has loved.
