Chapter 8

HEALTH HAZARDS

Modern lifestyle has brought with it a host of hazards, some caused by the environmental factors and some totally man made, even environmental hazards are to a greater extent man-made. Man has been inventing from simple vehicles to supersonic planes and established factories with heavy machines for their commercial production on large scale. It has polluted both water and air. Its garbage is mixed with water bodies. All the water bodies on the surface of the earth are polluted. With the effect of carbon emissions the whole of atmosphere has become polluted. The gravitational force of the earth is not able to hold back the ozone layer which has been wiped out from 73 million kilometres, and yet the scientists claim that there is only a hole in the ozone layer. Because of pesticides and other poisons, the rain brings acid with it and is known as acid rain. The green house gas is killing the plants, trees, animals and even humans too. The existence of living beings is at stake.

There are other health hazards which will ruin the health of each human being and the quality of all the gross elements. Healthy living is not easy in the face of excessive industrialization and use of numerous unhealthy products. Some hazards are being mentioned below:

  1. Covered drainage system; rotten food items thrown in it; filthy condition and bad smell.

  2. Storage of garbage everywhere; the worst problem of bigger cities and metros.

  3. Plastics blocking the flow of drains; polluting cultivable soil;

  4. Pollution of remaining one percent drinking water inside the earth

  5. Lack of drinking water on the surface of the earth

  6. Polluted reservoirs and lakes

  7. Windowless houses

  8. Lack of fresh air

  9. Lack of trees and forests

  10. Cultivable land is being grabbed in the name of developing infra-structure or for the construction of taller buildings

  11. Lack of play ground as stadiums are not for general public

  12. Lack of play grounds for children

  13. Market saturated with junk food

  14. Markets filled up with intoxicants and tobacco etc

  15. Excessive indulgence in luxury and sex

For centuries, man has been inventing elements that will provide him with intoxicating results. Drinking, smoking, and drugs are just a few of such elements, which can demand a very heavy price from human beings. It breaks them financially and destroys family life.
