Acknowledgments

In writing this book we drew on insights from our research over the past 25 years. We owe a tremendous amount of credit and gratitude to our colleagues, past and present, whose curiosity, investigative spirit, smarts, and passion helped to advance the field of forensic accounting. We are especially proud of the work of our team at Schilit Forensics, including Aquiba Benarroch, Lucy Guo, Elie Himmelfarb, Kate Konetzke, Rebecca Lebwohl, Tom Skoglund, Sydney Traub, and Andrea Willette. Working shoulder to shoulder with such an exceptionally talented, kind, and fun group has made working a pleasure. We are also ever grateful to our clients who have entrusted us to stand as a line of defense against avoidable losses in their portfolios.

We are also deeply grateful for the love and support of our families:

To Diane, my amazing wife of 37 years, your love and support has been the bedrock in every achievement. To Jonathan, Suzanne, and Amy, your father could not be any prouder. And to the next generation of Schilit shenanigan-busters (Levi, Micah, and Grace), Grandpa is expecting that you also will make a wonderful contribution to the world for the next century.

—Howard

To my wife Andrea, who strengthens and inspires me every day with her brilliance, benevolence, and endless love. To our four beautiful children: Shira, Orli, Lev, and Rina; who inspirit and enlighten me with their curiosity, kindness, and enthusiasm. And to my parents, Vicki and Arthur, my daily models of devotion and integrity.

—Jeremy

To Talia, I am forever grateful for your love, support, inspiration, and encouragement. To Yakira, Nadav, Lior, and Noam for your good questions, insights, and contagious giggles. To my parents, Larry and Marlene for giving me a strong foundation and education, and for always encouraging my curiosity.
