CHAPTER 57
In Viv’s living room a big screen stared at a worn armchair, which was perpendicular to a less used-looking sofa. Against the far wall was a bookshelf. Science and history books, which left Barb both unsurprised and disinterested.
Where would you hide something if you were Viv? He lived alone and Barb suspected he didn’t have many visitors. Viv knew Seb was ‘writing a report’ into Joe’s death, but he would have no cause to think he was a suspect and bury anything incriminating in a hole in the bush.
Barb entered his bedroom and started opening drawers. In the bottom drawer of his cupboard she found a plastic bag containing three syringes. On her phone, she pulled up the photo of the syringe found next to Joe’s bed. Identical.
That didn’t mean Viv had killed Joe, she told herself. It just meant he had some explaining to do. She picked up one of the syringes and examined it. Then she heard a door open.
