Lieutenant Mark Vincente
Detective’s Notes
August 17, 1985
The transcripts of the recordings from the bug in the office at the Naked Envy are back. The murder is on them. There is a conversation between Bezruchkov and a female, and on the tape Bezruchkov—just before he went down—refers to the woman as ‘Kali’ or ‘Khali.’
The earring found at Garbus’s apartment has come back from analysis. It is a Burmese ruby. The doorman at the apartment building recalls a woman wearing bright red earrings and dressed in an exterminator’s uniform with a company looking for that apartment. He also remembers her having blond cornrows.
The earrings appear identical to ones I have seen worn by Violet DeLoache, the sister to Khalika DeLoache. I have never met Khalika DeLoache, but I saw her leaving Violet’s apartment once, and she had blond cornrows.
I’ve also heard from Lt. Bruno, and it turns out that cards or notes with Latin tags were found with three other murders in Westchester—a pedophile found dead in his car; a high-school teacher at the school Violet attended; and four kids at the same school. They were all before Lt. Bruno joined the department—the pedo was as far back as 1978, and although she knew about them, she hadn’t known the details—the police never made the Latin tags public. She found out about them recently after digging through some files and let me know.
