Anders shifted back to his human form and jumped forward to catch Kiaan when he blacked out. Had that spell been too much? He hadn’t seemed that worn out after the first time. Had multiple times of the spell compounded their effect?
Anders paused once he had Kiaan in his arms. More than anything else, his wolf was growling at him to take Kiaan to his apartment and never let him go. But Kaeden probably wouldn’t be okay with that.
He walked over to one of the couches in the common area and laid him down.
“What’s wrong?” he asked Kaeden, who was pulling on a pair of sweats that Blake had brought downstairs.
“He got it, right?” Blake asked.
“Yes, both.” Anders confirmed. Then he looked at Kaeden again. “What’s wrong?”
“He’s just a little exhausted.” Kaeden shrugged. “That was a big spell. And if he had already done the same one, then it definitely would have hit the limits of his magical reserve.”
“Wanted uncle’s help,” Anders noted.
“Yeah, it’s always easier to do a big spell like that when there are two mages.” Kaeden nodded. “Either working together or each taking one of them would have been good. Why didn’t he wait for Uncle Brian?”
“Didn’t answer,” Anders huffed. “How do I help him?”
Kaeden looked up from his cousin and stared at Anders for a few seconds. Then a slow smile spread across his face. “He just needs to rest.” Kaeden said. “Take him up to your apartment and let him sleep it off. He’ll be fine by dinner time.”
Anders nodded and scooped Kiaan up. He was already in his apartment, settling Kiaan in his bed before he asked himself why Kaeden hadn’t told him to put Kiaan to bed in Kaeden’s apartment.
