It might be right before their eyes—and yet invisible to them. That’s one reason your children need you to help them see their God-given abilities. Forget fears of sounding prideful. Give encouraging praise when and where it’s due. You’re in the best position to see their uniqueness.

Every child needs something that makes him feel stand out special. What that personal gift might be varies. Even within a family, kids will differ in what they can and like to do. One may enjoy helping the handicapped or solving tangled problems that others can’t deal with. Maybe they’re great at something the world fails to recognize with gold medals. Wonderful—we need a whole lot more just like them.

Sometimes the daily grind wears you down. You long for encouragement yourself but come up empty. That’s no excuse. You still need to help your children see the good within. Pointing out positives about their personalities and abilities accomplishes that.

Go one step farther and find out what skills they want or would like to strengthen. Then teach them if you can or encourage them to gain the knowledge in an after-school class. With the plethora of online courses and books, your child should be able to learn just about anything.

Most of all, ask God to give you insights into His gifts in your children’s lives. Then ask Him how best to help draw those out.

Make your children’s well-being a top priority. Help them grow as people. Realize their self-sufficiency and personal worth are guided by how they value themselves. That’s typically a function of their talents. Each one has special skills stitched in by the Creator, but more important, they are His children.
