Acknowledgments

This entire book was written during the pandemic. Thankfully, I had a deadline because without that kind of accountability, the distractions of 2020 threatened to derail the creative process entirely. I am writing these acknowledgments on the eve of the 2020 election and have no idea what the world will look like when this book finds itself in your hands, but I know this: our stories are more important now than ever, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to write about our lives and our loves, and I will never take this privilege for granted, no matter what the future holds.

Thanks to Rad and Sandy and the entire crew at Bold Strokes Books for running a publishing house that manages to be both professional and nurturing at the same time—I’m proud to call BSB home. To my editor, Cindy, your keen eye always makes me look better, and you deserve all the See’s Candies in the land! Tammy, thank you for another striking cover.

Special shout-outs to Georgia for our daily check-ins (especially meaningful this year), Ruth for her magical blurb stylings, and my bestie Paula for reading every draft, brainstorming plot points, and being an amazing friend. To the rest of my posse, I can’t wait until we can meet in person for martinis/wine/old fashioneds, big laughs, and deep conversation.

Spirit of the Law is a bit outside the box for me. While still centered around the law with all the tenets that anchor our justice system, this story also explores the value of believing in truths we can’t see but that are often more real than the cold, hard facts we call evidence. I hope you enjoy a little dose of the unworldly with your romantic intrigue.

Thanks to my wife, Lainey, for always believing in my dreams even when they involve sacrificing our time together. I had a blast brainstorming this story with you. I couldn’t live this dream without you and I wouldn’t want to.

And to my loyal readership, thank you, thank you, thank you. Every time you purchase one of my stories, you give me the gift of allowing me to make a living doing what I love. Thanks for taking this journey with me.
