IN EVERY School for Spirits book, there's at least one true story, or a story based on true events. In Archangel Undercover, it's the cat story.

In 2015-2017, my sister and I were living with my dad, who had dementia, and needed constant care and supervision. Back then, we used to talk about getting a cat, and the sort of cat we wanted. At the time, getting a pet was out of the question. My dad had vivid hallucinations about animals and people, and he would lash out at them. We couldn't predict what he might do to a real animal in the house.

My sister and I often had chats about our perfect cat. We wanted a cat who was affectionate, a little clingy, and who acted a bit like a dog.

My dad passed away at the end of 2017. In early 2018, while grieving my dad's death, my sister and I used to take lengthy walks around the neighborhood. In February, on a very cold day, I insisted on taking a different route than usual. After a two mile walk, we encountered a cat, cowering under a car. He came to greet us, rubbed against us, and was very excited to see us. We petted him awhile and said farewell, but the cat had other plans. He followed us home for two whole miles! I was cracking up, because it was a very surreal moment.

The adventurous kitty didn't have a collar, and for two weeks, my sister and I combed the internet, trying to find his owner. We even walked around Kitty's old neighborhood several times, looking for a poster. At the end of a few weeks, we decided he belonged with us.

As it happens, he is the exact cat my sister and I used to describe: he's affectionate, a little clingy, and he acts like a dog in cat form. I'm halfway convinced our cat was a manifestation... or maybe he had a kitty guide who helped him find a new home?

Thanks to everyone who read this book, and especially to those of you who convinced me to continue the series. Book six, Almost an Archangel, will be released in September 2019, and it is available for preorder now.
