Vehicle Venue

Thanks to the wonders of technology, our world offers numerous transportation alternatives. We can drive, take a train, go by bus, or fly in a plane or helicopter. Someday these options may even include spaceships! Consequently, our magic has to grow and change to meet the demands of a rapidly transforming, warp-speed culture. This section shares with you some practical ideas for pocket magic that affects vehicles other than your car.

The Goddess for vehicle magic is Inari, the Japanese fox goddess (sometimes a god), who presides over smithcraft (ironwork) and shape shifting, both of which are essential to the proper creation and maintenance of our modern vehicles.

BIKE AND MOTORCYCLE AMULETS:

Both bikes and motorcycles are terrific for sightseeing and low (or no) gas consumption, but they also expose the rider to dangers that a car does not. Since wearing a helmet in both instances has become the law in many states, I suggest using your helmet as the foundation for a practical amulet. Additionally, you will need a piece of masking tape on which you write the word safety or protect, as follows:

This is a reversal of the format of the ancient charm Abracadabra, building positive energy. As you write, invoke Inari’s blessing, saying,

Protection and Shielding,
bound in this tape,
by Inari’s power,
I shall always be safe.

Adhere the tape to the inside of the helmet. Repeat the invocation each time you put on the helmet.

AIRPLANE AMULET:

Since we don’t have wings or feathers, some people are very queasy and nervous in airplanes. Even those of us who enjoy flying can feel safer when we carry a little bit of the Goddess with us. For this amulet you will need a small moonstone (which promotes protection and composure), a feather (which represents flight), and something to bind the two together. Take these in your hand, saying,

Inari, answer this behest;
security is my request.
When I travel ‘cross the skies
keep me safe where’er I fly.

Bind the feather to the stone and keep it with you whenever you travel by airplane. Once a year make a new amulet, returning the old feather and stone to the earth with thankfulness.

TRAIN, BUS, AND SUBWAY TALISMAN:

Modes of public transportation have unique dangers, not the least of which are theft and assault. So, make yourself a practical talisman, using pepper spray as the base. Pepper is a protective, banishing herb because of its caustic quality.

Put the container in sunlight for seven hours to chase away shadows and negativity, and in moonlight for seven hours to improve your awareness. Then take it in both of your hands, visualizing bright, pure light filling it as you say,

Protection, security, be with me;
with this token, I claim, safety.

Attach this to your key chain so that it’s always with you.

Alternative Components:

Magic components are vehicle-specific. On a bicycle or motorcycle, use side packs as a component to “hold” various types of energy, a horn for “making way,” and a rear-view mirror you’ve blessed for keen vision. On a boat, use empowered motion-sickness pills for well-being.

In terms of timing, working on Thursday helps plans run smoothly, and the month of January improves foresight. Casting your spells when the moon is in Aquarius aids in personal enjoyment, and a waning moon emphasizes decreased difficulties.
