PLAN
YOUR FAMILY EMERGENCY KIT CHECKLIST

Just as no two families are the same, no two emergency kits will be same. Before you get busy customizing your kit family’s needs, be sure to include the essential supplies.

Pack these bare essentials for survival in your family’s Go-Bags:

SHELTER

WATER

FOOD

FIRE

FIRST AID

HYGIENE

TOOLS AND EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

These items make up your extra supplies stash. Pack them in a waterproof container of your choice and store it with your Go-Bags:

SURVIVAL SAVVY PETS

Fido and Fluffy are relying on you to keep them safe in an emergency. Don’t forget to make an emergency kit for your pets!

WHAT SHOULD YOU PACK IN YOUR CHILD’S GO-BAG?

INFANTS AND TODDLERS (AGE 0-4)

Obviously, your baby can’t carry a Go-Bag so you’ll have to leave room in your pack for your littlest one’s needs. Here are some baby essentials you need to be sure to include in your Go-Bag:

Preschoolers should be able to carry a backpack specifically made for toddlers if it’s sized right. But it still can’t be weighed down with tons of stuff, so plan on doing most of the heavy lifting. All clothing, hygiene, and medical items should go in your pack but your toddler can help out by carrying the following items:

SCHOOL AGE KIDS (AGE 5-10)

Kids in this age group should be able to carry all items specific to them. Depending on their size though, the younger ones may still have some difficulty. Pack wisely. Put all the items listed below in their Go-Bags then ask them to try on the packs to test out the weight.

TWEENS AND TEENS (AGE 11+)

Your tweens and teens can carry all the same items as the school-age children, plus an additional liter of water. Also, let them help you out. At this age, they can share some of the responsibility for the family’s load.
