Canyonlands is located in southeast Utah’s high desert. The climate is extremely dry, receiving on average less than 10 inches of precipitation each year. Summers are hot, winters are cold, and the seasons in between are comfortable. Another characteristic of the high desert is extreme weather variation. A single day’s temperature can vary more than 40°F. Summer highs often reach into the 100s°F, but evenings are almost always comfortable with average lows in the 60s°F. During winter, average highs are in the 40s°F with lows averaging around 25°F. Spring and fall tend to be the most popular seasons, when average daytime highs range from the 60s – 80s°F.
