5-INGREDIENT, 30 MINUTES OR LESS, ONE-POT
These crispy crackers are flavored with a savory blend of garlic and za’atar, a Middle Eastern aromatic spice composed of toasted sesame seeds, earthy thyme and oregano, and citrus-y lemon peel. The crackers’ crunch makes them a perfect dipping vehicle for
Artichoke-Basil Hummus
,
Edamame-Guacamole Dip
, or the
Tofu-Chive Cream Cheese
. You can also cut the cracker dough into long crisp breads and use it as a substitute for bread.
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
2 teaspoons garlic powder
½ cup water
1
.
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2
.
In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, flaxseed, hemp seeds, za’atar, garlic powder, and water until it is dough-like and slightly sticky.
3
.
Using a rolling pin or a floured wine bottle, spread the dough to a thickness of about one-tenth of an inch. Cut the dough into bite-size crackers (about 1-by-1-inch) and separate them to allow crispy edges to form on each cracker.
4
.
Bake for 20 minutes until lightly browned and the edges are crispy. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
SUBSTITUTION TIP:
Swap out 1 tablespoon of hemp seeds for 1 tablespoon of psyllium husk powder for a boost of pure soluble fiber. Psyllium husk does not add any flavor but may make the cracker crisper.
