Trying Out New Surfaces

PAINTED PEBBLES

I just love to work on different types of surfaces, such as paper, canvas and wood. The techniques I’ve shown you work well on all of these so give them a go sometime!

My latest surface has been the beautiful, simple pebble. I really did stumble across doing this after a trip abroad. I had brought back a couple of souvenir pebbles from a beach and they sat on my desk for a while until one day I was compelled to add one of my sparkly foil hearts to one and then paint the other one. I was hooked! The mixture of the pebble’s natural beauty with the addition of foil and paint just seemed to make the stone so special. The response has been was amazing, and they have been selling like hot cakes (or should that be hot rocks)!

They make wonderful gifts, home décor accents or paperweights and they feel lovely in your hand to just hold as well as look at.

I’m really happy to share with you my latest inspirational art and hope you can also come up with your own unique designs for your pebbles.

What You Need

pebbles

acrylic paint

brushes

matte varnish and brush

foil glue pen

foil and gold leaf

black pen

STEP 1: Wash your pebbles and let them dry thoroughly.

STEP 2: With your chosen color, paint one side of the pebble and set aside to dry. Repeat on the other side. You might need to do two coats. (I sometimes set my pebbles on the radiator to help them dry more quickly!)

STEP 3: With your foil glue pen, draw on a heart and fill in. Allow to dry thoughly!)

STEP 4: Add your foil or gold leaf. A simple word may be added using a paint pen or permanent marker. Or, if you’re comfortable, you could paint the word on using a fine liner brush.

STEP 5: Gently apply a thin coat of varnish and leave to dry.
