Wood-Warblers
Wilson’s Warbler, Wilsonia pusilla
Family Parulidae (Wood-Warblers)
Size: 4.75"
Season: Summer
Habitat: Willow and alder thickets, woodlands near water
The Wilson’s warbler is a small, lively warbler with a narrow tail and a short bill. It is uniformly olive green above and yellow below, with some olive-green smudging. The head has large black eyes and a beanie-shaped black cap. Females and juveniles have a greenish cap with variable amounts of black. Wilson’s warblers stay low to the ground, gleaning food from the vegetation, or hover and hawk for insects. Their voice is a rapid series of chattering notes, or a quick chip call. The adult male is illustrated.
