The common yellowthroat scampers through the undergrowth looking for insects and spiders in a somewhat wren-like manner. It is a plump little warbler that often cocks up its tail. Its plumage is olive brown above and pale brown to whitish below, with a bright-yellow breast-to-chin region and undertail coverts. The male has a black facial mask trailed by a fuzzy white area on the nape. The female lacks the facial mask. The female (top) and male (bottom) are illustrated.
