Swap a Fence for a Hedge
Hedgerows are another valuable source of nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators. If you need to replace a garden boundary or put in a new one, plant a hedge. Fences offer nothing in terms of cover, food or nesting places for bugs (or any other wildlife), while a hedge can soon become a refuge for bees, birds and garden-friendly mammals such as hedgehogs. Go for a species of hedge that’s rich in blossom – such as hawthorn or rosemary – or even better, plant a mixed hedge that will give successive flowers throughout the year.
