Don’t Water in Full Sun
Gardeners already know the traditional wisdom about watering plants either early in the morning or early in the evening, to avoid the evaporating effects of the sun. But did you know that it also helps bees if you don’t switch on the hosepipe during the day? Bees tend to fly during the warmest hours of the day – usually after breakfast when the air temperature has risen above 13°C (55°F) or before the evening air starts to cool down. And while bees can fly in a light drizzle, getting caught out by a sudden sprinkler or the heavy drops of a hosepipe spray can be lethal. If you need to water your garden, try early morning or early evening, when pollinators have finished for the day. Or, even better, use a watering can or irrigation system that can apply water directly to the soil rather than the foliage.
