Psalm 119:94
I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.
This is one of the shortest lines in this little collection of thoughts, but it is one of the sweetest. Whatever our difficulty, whatever our trials, whatever our problems, we go forward on the reassurance of one grand principle, one fundamental element of our faith—that we are God’s children, that He wants very much to bless us, and that He does this ultimately through the gift of His Only Begotten Son.
The Savior once said (as quoted by Isaiah) that, as unlikely as it is, a mother could forget the child to whom she had given birth and whom she had nursed and loved. Knowing a mother’s love makes that most improbable, nearly impossible, to imagine—but it would be more imaginable than that either the Father or the Son would ever forget us. The reason they would not (could not?) forget us is because with the approbation of the Father, the Son has “graven [us] upon the palms of [His] hands.”183 In our extremity, we can always make claim upon those wounds—those scarred reminders that a great price has been paid for our salvation. Having paid such a price, neither the Father nor the Son is going to give up on us now. Following their precepts will save us.
