The Femme Playlist is about the journey of a closeted woman to body-proud queer femme told through the lattice of a music playlist. When she dances off the stage at the end of the play, that is where I Cannot Lie to the Stars That Made Me begins in my heart. The last play is about the emotional work it takes to heal from rape, from racial aggressions, from abuse.
Some have said that my life has been extraordinary. Sadly, it is not. These two plays are based on the tragedies and triumphs of my life. But I know for a fact there are countless numbers of you in the racialized and LGBTQ2S community who have survived horrific ordeals and are not given the chance to share your experiences and have them affirmed by audience members.
In that affirmation, I am indeed extraordinary. It is with a great amount of privilege that I share my work with you.
