“Elvis Is Still The King” (08/18/76)
Just a man who became a star
just a star who became a king;
A man who gave the world his heart
and joy when he would sing.
And though now the king is gone
still people cheer and his memory lingers on.
Yes, all over the world there’s people crying
tears that flow and hearts that are trying
to hold on to the man who touched our souls.
The legend is growing stronger
and you can hear the people sing;
Death has come but love lives longer
and Elvis is still the king.
Yes, all over the world sadness sets in
the king has died and the hurt won’t mend;
The whole world weeps while the pain is strong
eternal sleep is where the king has gone.
Taken away though a dreadful thing
he rides the clouds of Heaven and sings;
While down below here on earth throughout a lonely world it rings –
Elvis is still the king
We miss you, Elvis, wherever you’ve gone
because rock and roll is not rock and roll unless you are singing the song.
