NOTES

General

For the whole of the period volumes 1 and 2 of Mandell Creighton remain the best narrative of Church (but not Bohemian) history; but see also Delaruelle. Gregorovius, another well-tried text, is also valuable for the period up to 1415. No specific references are given to these much-used texts. The relevant chapters in the – essential for the period – Cambridge Medieval History (CMH) volumes 7 and 8 and in the New Cambridge Medieval History (NCMH) volumes 6 and 7 are signalled. For general reference see Moser, McBrien, Duffy (2001) and the Lexicon des Mittel Alters volume 9.
