Agastache is quite drought tolerant, though it does need well-drained, fertile soil. This is a fairly pest-free plant. It prefers full sun, though it will grow in part shade; it just won’t flower as much.
With around 30 different species, Agastache comes in a variety of colors and is attractive to insects. Bluish purple flowers are most widespread, but others, such as this ‘Peachie Keen’, are worth searching out.
If you have a garden where rabbits or deer are troublesome, Agastache is a good choice, as they don’t seem to like it. Anywhere you want to attract hummingbirds and butterflies is also a good location. It is self-sowing, and you can transplant the seedlings; just be aware that the new plants may not be true to the parents.
