Witness Protection began with the idea that if the government couldn’t get imprisoned mobsters to testify against their own because of fear of revenge, then they’d never take down the mob. Some of those people have been good people. Maybe they were accountants for the mob who’d never pulled a trigger. Or, they could have been honest businessmen in the community who were pressured by the mob to do things against their will. Maybe they had wives and children who’d be killed if they testified.

So, for those people, it makes sense to give them protection. To let them start over somewhere else.

But I read an article that said 95% of the entrants into WitSec are criminals themselves. Let that sink in for a moment. 95% of them are criminals. And these are the people we’re wasting our taxpayer money on.

Your tax dollars, which you worked hard for and the government took from you, are going to buy houses and cars for people who have murdered other Americans. Stolen from them. And those houses might be in your neighborhood. Those cars might be driving on the streets next to where your children play.

You have no way to protect yourself from this, because there’s no way for you to even know if this is happening right under your nose. Am I suggesting that you should fear everyone and everything around you? Not at all. That’s not what it means to be an American. But I feel like I have a right to know, and so do you.

If I move into a new house, I can look online to find out if there are any child molesters within five miles of me. But I can’t look at some website to find out if the person living in the house next to me might have chopped up bodies with an axe, or sold drugs for a Mexican cartel, or kidnapped someone’s child so he could get a payday.

If you knew that, would you stay there, or would you move?

This monster in your neighborhood gets a lifetime pass because he did one good thing in his miserable life. He testified. And that one good thing entitles him to walk around as a free man, no matter what heinous crimes he has committed in the past.
