LAVENDER RICE FOR SENSORY PLAY

Lavender rice is a wonderful sensory play activity that your child can use to calm down and relax at the end of the day, or simply when things are just a little too crazy. Lavender calms and relaxes, which is why it’s perfect in this recipe!

YIELD: 1 pound lavender rice

2 tablespoons distilled water

2–3 drops purple gel food coloring (use more if you desire a darker color)

1 pound white rice

10 drops lavender essential oil

TO MAKE: Combine water and food coloring in a small bowl. Add rice to a separate large bowl. Add food-coloring mixture to rice and mix well. Once the color is evenly distributed, add in lavender essential oil and mix well. Pour the rice onto a large surface covered with paper towels and allow to dry.

TO USE: Once dry, add rice to a large pan and give to your kids to play with. You can add in small scoops or toys, or they can just use their hands to enjoy!

TO STORE: Store indefinitely in a large covered container or zip-top bag. Refresh lavender scent as needed.
