Right in the heart of Swansea sits the infamous Constitution Hill, an excellently preserved and immaculately maintained cobbled climb just waiting to give you hell. The legality of climbing this hill may be questioned – no entry signs at the bottom and bollards preventing entry at the top suggest you shouldn’t, but it’s too good to miss. Begin at the junction with Hanover Street, ignore the signs, and take whatever run up you can get on to its wickedly steep gradient. The cobbles are large, even and framed either side by two feet of smooth paving, which is much easier to ride. Although you’ve not truly ridden this hill if you haven’t subjected your body to the pounding and jarring of the cobbles. Heave and haul your machine past the various roads that intersect from both sides to finish, shaken and stirred, between the bollards at Terrace Road.
