Bibliographical Note

This Dover edition, first published in 2008, is a new compilation of 101 Japanese woodblock prints by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, reproduced from the following original print sets: Taiheiki eiy den or Heroic Biographies from the “Tale of Grand Pacification” (1846-47), and Seich gishi den or The Faithful Samurai (1847-48). The Note and captions have been specially written for the present edition.
