Roy Smith was having a cup of tea at North Weald airfield; Max had phoned him at his home in Chingford asking him to meet him at North Weald.

Roy Smith’s code name was eagle six, he was five-foot eight inches tall with broad shoulders, his light coloured hair was shaven to a number one cut and he spoke with a Geordie accent.

Roy had slipped into his leather all in one suit and pulled the visor down on the full face mask, jumped on his Norton Commando 750cc motor bike, fired the engine up and listened for a moment at the beat of the engine, Roy rode up the A140 through Epping forest, enjoying the rush of air and scenery along the route.

After recovering from his injuries this was the second time, he had been able to ride his bike.

Epping Forest is just under ten miles long and two and a half miles wide and is the largest public open space in the London area.

Roy covered the eleven-mile journey in fifteen minutes. As he downed his tea, he heard the sound of the helicopter approaching stood up and walked to the door that was ajar.

He observed the Lynx descending creating a small amount of dust turbulence.

As it touched down, he walked over crouching down below the arch of the rotor blades.

One of the doors opened and Max appeared. “Welcome aboard Roy.”

“A nice day for a bit of site seeing by air,” replied Roy.
