Chapter Thirty-Three

‘You’re serious? You’ve told her you’re leaving?’ Louise asked, staring at Donnie.

‘Well, I told her to leave. It’s my house.’ Donnie smiled widely at her, and it made her heart flutter. ‘I told her she could stay there until she sorted something out for herself. But she’s out.’

‘I can’t believe you did it. Did you tell her about me?’

‘No. It’s none of her business. No offence, Lou, but you’re not the only reason I’ve broken it off with my wife. You’re just a bonus factor in it all.’

He leaned over and kissed her, and Louise felt like all her Christmases and birthdays had come at once. She didn’t think he’d actually do it. Kissing him back, Louise let her imagination go further than she’d ever allowed it before. A future with Donnie could be on the cards. He might want her to move in with him, and all the things that came with that. She might be young, but she knew that she was in love with Donnie and that she wanted to be with him, no matter what that meant.

‘You’re happy?’ Donnie asked.

‘Ecstatic, Donnie. You’ve no idea. This is so exciting. So, what’s next for us?’ she asked, almost in one breath.

She watched as Donnie’s brow furrowed. ‘What do you mean?’

‘Well, you’ve told your wife you don’t want to be with her anymore. So where does that leave us?’

‘It leaves us right here. We don’t need to rush this. Let’s just have fun and see where it goes.’ Donnie squeezed Louise’s hand, and she tried to hide the disappointment from her face.

‘Have you ever wanted to travel the world, Louise? Work in different countries and cultures, see what’s really out there in the world?’ Donnie asked as he tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. His touch set her skin alight.

‘I’ve never thought about it. But I suppose I could go to the moon with you and I wouldn’t care.’

Donnie smiled before cupping her chin and pulling her in for a kiss.

She let him. She’d let him do anything he wanted with her if it meant she could be with him.
