Before I talk about this book, I want to thank the team at Roc for giving Planetfall such a fantastic launch into the world. It was the first time a book I have written was reviewed in the New York Times and the Washington Post and it was thrilling! I would also like to thank everyone who reviewed it, tweeted about it, grabbed their friends and made them read it (I have been told this has happened several times!). Visibility for sci-fi books written by authors who happen to be female is hard-won, and you lovely people have been hugely helpful.
I want to thank Jennifer Udden for all the usual stuff I say in the acknowledgments (still true) but most especially for the e-mail you sent me after reading the 1.5 draft of this book. It made me laugh and it made me believe I had made something I could be proud of after that hellish year.
Thanks to Pete and the Bean, as always, for keeping me fed and cuddled.
I want to offer the biggest, plumpest, cheeriest thanks to Rebecca Brewer, my editor. Thank you for asking for more. Thank you for pushing me to go deeper when I was scared to. You have made this a better book as a result, and editors don’t get told that enough, in my humble opinion.
