John Keane is Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy, and Professor of Politics at the University of Westminster. Born in Australia, he completed his education at the universities of Adelaide, Toronto and Cambridge. He has written many books, including the acclaimed biography of Tom Paine and The Media and Democracy (which has been translated into nineteen languages), and is a frequent contributor to radio, television, newspapers, and magazines.
