Nicholas Warr grew up with his four brothers near Coos Bay, Oregon, on a small working farm maintained by their parents. The boys attended Marshfield High School, from which Nick graduated in 1963. He attended Brigham Young University and the University of Oregon before enlisting, at age twenty, in the Marine Corps in June 1966. Nick was recommended for the Enlisted Commissioning Program by his boot camp drill instructor; he attended OCS in Quantico, Virginia, and was commissioned in March 1967. His first assignment as a second lieutenant sent him to WestPac from November 1967 until December 1968.
Writing Phase Line Green has been an odyssey of healing for Nick Warr. The experience at Hue City and the images of the men who served with him have disturbed Nick’s sleep and colored his days since. “I hope the publication of this book will help me locate other survivors of Charlie Company, and that they will contact me. I would very much like to see them again.” Nick feels the same about his youngest brother, Joe, Jr., who was drafted into the army and returned from Vietnam psychologically damaged. He has been lost to his family for many years and his whereabouts are currently unknown.
Nick was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for participation in Operation Hue City and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in March 1970. Today, he enjoys a successful career in computer technology sales. Nick resides in Alpine, California, with his wife, Pamela, and continues to work on writing projects.
